The admiralty case files consist of unbound case papers filed in admiralty proceedings consisting chiefly of libels and informational answers of respondents, claims for property, depositions of witnesses and libelants, reports of commissioners, undertakings for costs, marshal's warrants of seizure and attachment, motions and stipulations, and other documents of a legal and administrative nature. The proceedings involve steamboats operating primarily from the Port of Bismarck on the upper Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers.
